Find Balance This Summer

June 20, 2023

At Truvelop, we know that change isn’t just manager-driven. Employees have the ability to drive their own experience and create an environment that inspires growth and engagement. That’s why Truvelop sends out monthly Truvelop Tips directly to the employees of each of our clients. Here’s an excerpt from June’s Truvelop Tip: Find Balance This Summer.

Have you heard of the summer slump? During the summer months, organizations tend to see a slight downturn in productivity. Employees tend to get distracted and more laid-back, as everyone itches to take advantage of the warmer weather. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing when it’s subtle, there are ways to help prevent the summer slump from drastically affecting your performance.

Truvelop Tip: Find Balance This Summer

Employees who have strong feelings of relatedness and competence are going to be the most engaged. It’s a subtle balance of pushing for growth and taking the time to reflect and recover.  It is really difficult to go above and beyond all of the time, so it’s important to identify habits that will allow you to actively recover helping you come back to work refreshed and recharged.

Recognize your peers: It is difficult to come to work feeling inspired if you feel like your work doesn’t matter. Take a moment to Spark a peer with praise to let them know you appreciate what they’re doing and the impact they’re having. By sharing recognition, you actively create a culture that supports and celebrates the day-to-day.

Celebrate your connections: An organization’s culture and people are what make it a unique place to work. Take five minutes to reflect on what you are most grateful for at work. Is it your team? Is it the inclusive culture? Are you proud of your organization’s mission? Maybe you just appreciate having a flexible schedule? Gratitude has been shown to have extremely positive effects on overall wellbeing.

Reflect on progress: It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the mid-point of the year. Reflect on the progress you’ve made by visiting My Dashboard. Do you have any recent Evaluations or Sparks? By identifying what you’ve already achieved and what else you want to work towards, you can renew focus and motivation.

Lastly, don’t forget that it’s summer! Be sure to get outside if you can and enjoy time with loved ones (use that PTO if you have it!). By spending time outside of work doing activities that make you feel fulfilled, you’re going to be able to come back to work relaxed and rejuvenated.
