Emotional Intelligence, or EQ is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions, as well as the emotions of others, in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict (HelpGuide). To effectively lead and inspire your team, you need the ability to successfully navigate the emotions of the workplace.

The stressors of a workplace can shift rapidly.  It’s important that you’re regularly checking in with your team to understand what is currently going well and what they may need support on.  When entering these check-ins, seek out feedback to set yourself up for success and accurately assessing your team’s current emotions and needs.   

Leverage Spark: Whether you are requesting feedback in a Spark or asking your team for regular updates, Spark is a great way to memorialize conversations and gain insights into your team members’ current assessments of their performance and needs.  The more touchpoints, the more accurate picture you’ll have! 

Breaking Down Summary Reporting: Sometimes gauging people’s emotions can be difficult.  Do you know how to use the data you already have to open a conversation that the Team Member can lead?
