Increase Workplace Productivity

March 22, 2022

It should be no surprise to managers that employees are struggling to manage schedules and increased workloads in an ever-changing work environment. This could be resulting in decreased productivity as team members are challenged to prioritize and juggle competing demands.

Our team shares a few tips to increase workforce productivity among your team:

  • Encourage exercise. According to an article from BrainHQ, briefly exercising for 20 minutes facilitates information processing and memory functions. Managers can encourage employees to take a break each day for exercise. This not only develops a culture that prioritizes employee health, but also makes it easier for employees to take time out of the busy day for a workout or even a walk-in fresh air, which can help them regain focus.
    • A Harvard study noted in an article from Forbes showed the benefits of exercise aren’t just physical. There is evidence that it boosts mental abilities like:
      • Enhanced creativity
      • Quicker learning
      • Sharper memory
      • Improved concentration
  • Stop multi-tasking. Schedule regular meetings with team members. This opens lines of communication and provides time for you to help the employee prioritize. Discourage team members from multi-tasking and suggest focusing on one project or task at a time.
    • In an article from the New York Times, Dr. Miller, a neuroscience professor at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, shares, “Trying to multitask impedes creativity. Truly innovative thinking arises when we allow our brains to follow a logical path of associated thoughts and ideas, and this is more likely when we can focus on a single mental pathway for an extended period.”
  • Create an employee recognition program. Employee recognition is one of the best ways to increase productivity because it helps them to feel valued and noticed. Examples of employee recognition programs include small gift cards for meeting weekly or monthly goals, or using a traditional “Employee of the Month” system to celebrate their recent accomplishments across the company’s Slack channel. A shout-out at the monthly all staff zoom meeting or lunch for the team that hits a specific goal are great ways to keep employees focused and engaged. With Truvelop, we provide a Wall feature that allows employers to give employees that company-wide attention.
