Last month we explored how you can leverage AI to identify next steps when it comes to best supporting your team’s development. In May, we will be taking a slightly deeper look at leveraging data to determine when it’s appropriate to upskill or reskill. Let’s get started!

First, let’s determine the difference between upskilling and reskilling:

  • Upskilling: Upskilling involves learning new skills or teaching workers new capabilities to enhance their existing roles.
  • Reskilling: Reskilling entails acquiring new skills to transition into a different job role or training individuals for alternative roles.

There are a few factors that may determine which approach would be the most appropriate fit for an employee. For example, what is their career path? Do they have an interest in any cross-functional work? Are they currently the right fit for their role? What open positions does your company currently have?

Consider your Evaluation scores for each employee and see who is currently ready for a challenge (a Rising Performer perhaps?) or who is showing signs of disengagement or who may be looking for a change of pace (any Improvement or Lagging Performers?).
