Using Data & Dialogue to Drive Your Development

September 16, 2025

At Truvelop, we know that change isn’t just manager-driven. Employees have the ability to drive their own experience and create an environment that inspires growth and engagement. That’s why Truvelop sends out monthly Truvelop Tips directly to the employees of each of our clients. Here’s an excerpt from September’s Employee Truvelop Tip: Using Data & Dialogue to Drive Your Development.

Your career journey is a partnership, and your manager is your biggest ally. But for that partnership to thrive, it needs to be built on clear, two-way communication. By combining your voice with data, you can drive productive, engaging development conversations that leave both you and your manager aligned on what’s next.

Your Data, Your Story

Throughout the year, your manager has been collecting feedback and observations in Truvelop with Evaluations and real-time Sparks. This isn’t just a one-and-done, check-the-box exercise. Instead, it is a dynamic picture of your accomplishments, strengths, and opportunities for growth. This objective data creates a transparent foundation for your conversations, moving from generalities to specifics about your performance.

Your Voice Powers the Conversation

This data is the starting point, but your voice is what brings it to life. A two-way dialogue ensures this picture is complete. Here’s how you can actively partner in your development:

  • Review Your Data: Before your check-in, take a look at your own dashboard in Truvelop. Take a peak at the trends in your Sparks and Evaluations. What stands out to you? What contributed to the changes in your performance?

  • Come Prepared: Think about your recent work. What achievements are you proud of? What challenges did you face? How do your own observations align with or differ from the data?

  • Ask Questions & Seek Clarity: Use the data as a springboard for discussion. Ask your manager, “Can you tell me more about this Spark?” or “Based on this feedback, what would success look like in the next few months?”

Driving Your Development Forward

When you combine objective data with your subjective experience, you create a powerful roadmap for your growth. These check-ins are your opportunity to:

  • Gain a clear understanding of exactly where you stand and what you’re doing well.

  • Co-create specific and actionable next steps for your professional development.

  • Receive the support and encouragement you need to stay on track and feel recognized.

Your active participation ensures these conversations are meaningful and relevant to your goals. By engaging in this two-way dialogue, you and your manager can strengthen your working relationship and outline a clear, efficient path for your continued growth and success.
